Boron oxide is used as a fluxing agent in enamels and glasses, additional it is the starting material for the synthesis of other boron compounds. Also its use as a bonding agent in hot isostatic pressing of boron nitride ceramics is very common, for this purpose, quantities of 2-6% are added to boron nitride.
