Boron nitride
shows a very good non-wetting behaviour against many metal melts such as
aluminium and magnesium as well as lead and zinc. The graph on the left
shows the wetting behaviour of aluminium on boron nitride compared with
data for silicon nitride and alumina. To approx. 900°C a wetting
angle of approx. 160° is observed. Between 900 and 1000°C the
wetting angle drops clearly, however it is still situated above the values
measured for silicon nitride and alumina. A detailed description of these
