The ZR-M zirconia
coating developed by Büro für angewandte Mineralogie is based
on the use of zirconium dioxide which, as opposed to the frequently used
zirconium silicate, has considerably better stability and resistance to
higher temperatures. The new material can be used as a release and protective
coating on graphite and ceramic crucibles, on refractories as well as fibre
ceramics. On account of this 98% content of ZrO2 during melting
with reactive additives it forms an effective protective layer on channels,
pemanent moulds and thermocouples. This ensures the production of clean
castings and the cleanliness of melts, as for example noble metals for
dentistry. The coating can be used in air or under vacuum up to 1900°C,
on graphite up tpo 1500°C. The product is solvent-free and not subject
to special regulations.
